Time: 4:00 - 6:00pm
Venue: KK Leung Room 1101

Abstract:
This presentation explores why a female Japanese adult video star, Aoi Sora, is so popular in China right now. First, her amazing popularity among Chinese men can be seen both from the number of Chinese fans of her mini blog and the influence of her news appeared in Chinese media. Then Aoi Sora’s Promotion Strategies in China will be analyzed. We can find that Aoi Sora achieved her transformation from an AV actress who basically cannot be talked about in public to a popular star with good image in China through a skillful image-building in Chinese context and the power of media. Finally, a hypothesis will be stated that her transformation is closely related to the emerging Chinese middle class.
