Research Colloquium:
An Analysis of Arashi (1999-2009) & Fans Practices Research

Abstract:
Some said that 2009 was ‘the Year of Arashi’, no matter it was true or not, last year was definitely a significant moment to the group. While celebrating the 10th anniversary of the boys, by reviewing their works and results, media criticized that Arashi already reached the top of their career. Was it the top already?

Being background studies of the research on fans culture of Hong Kong Arashi enthusiasts, the idols’ accomplishments in 2009 together with their efforts in the past 10 years were analyzed. In this presentation, analysis results and impacts of Arashi will be discussed. In addition, the progress of the fans practices research will also be reported.

Arashi:
Arashi is a Japanese five-member boy band debuted in 1999 and promoted by a well-known talent agency in Japan which is Johnny & Associates Incorporated (so-called ‘Johnny’s Jimusho). The five boys are Satoshi Ohno (29), Sho Sakurai (28), Masaki Aiba (27), Kazunari Ninomiya (26), and Jun Matsumoto (26).
