Abstract:
In her talk, Professor Yui will discuss how to develop materials for writing instructions. She will begin by introducing key concepts of “proficiency” in relation with mental processes of writing and skills that are required in authentic situations. She will then examine how we can raise students’ “awareness” to improve their writing.

The talk will be followed by an afternoon workshop during which participants will create teaching materials with practical targets in mind.

About the speaker:
Professor Yui holds a Doctoral degree in literature from Osaka University. She is currently a Professor in the Department of Japanese Studies, Kyoto University of Foreign Studies. Her research interests include Japanese language education and semantics. She has published numerous books on the development of writing skills, Japanese grammar for writing and communication, and writing textbooks from major publishers such as Kuroshio and Hitsuji.

All are welcome.
